- We are always excited to see our patients! We understand that each patient has different health needs, aesthetic goals, and expectations about treatment. We set aside time at your new patient exam to discuss the questions regarding your orthodontic care.
- There is no charge for the new patient exam. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children receive an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Dr. Wells has chosen to provide this important exam as a courtesy to his patients.
- A digital panoramic X-ray will be taken to help Dr. Wells diagnose the developmental status of the patient’s dentition. Digital X-ray technology reduces the radiation exposure to the patient.
- Dr. Wells and his New Patient Coordinator will perform a comprehensive exam to determine what type of treatment is necessary and to determine the right time to begin treatment.
- If treatment is to begin a records appointment will be scheduled. In some instances, the records appointment can take place during the same visit as the new patient exam.
Diagnostic study models, a bite registration, a cephalometric radiograph, and intra-oral photographs will be taken as records of the patient and to evaluate the patient’s needs.
- Once the orthodontic records are analyzed the treatment plan is presented to you at the consultation appointment. This allows the opportunity to view and discuss in detail the orthodontic treatment recommendations. Time is also set aside at this appointment to discuss financial arrangements.
- If you are satisfied with the proposed treatment plan and financial arrangements the process of putting on braces can begin.
If, after the new patient exam, Dr. Wells does not feel that treatment is required at this time, a future observation appointment will be scheduled. This provides Dr. Wells with an opportunity to monitor dental development and determine the ideal time to begin orthodontic treatment.
- The appointment when you get your appliances (braces, expanders, etc.) usually takes from 1 to 2 hours. You will then see us at regular intervals 4 to 8 weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes 20 to 40 minutes.
- If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us as soon as possible.
